Almost exactly one year ago, I wrote "PLM integration is becoming a strategic issue" in this very same space. An increasing number of companies now also recognize just how important a sustainable integration strategy is if they want to be able to weave the digital thread across domains and company boundaries. As is so often the case, the aerospace and defense (A&D) industry is leading the way, having examined the performance capabilities of commercially available digital twin and digital thread solutions and future development trends in a comprehensive benchmark. In this benchmark, PROSTEP received high marks for the range of solutions it offers.
An Interview with Thorsten Kirschner and Alexander König
The digital product passport (DPP) not only brings the PLM and PIM worlds closer together but also requires closer collaboration with different standardization organizations. In this interview, Thorsten Kirschner, Senior Manager Industry Engagement at GS1 Germany GmbH, and DPP expert and Senior Manager Sustainability Alexander König, talk about the role that GS1 plays in this context.

Digitalization projects are vital levers when it comes to a company's competitiveness and innovative capability. At the same time, our experience shows that approximately two thirds of all projects do not achieve their declared objectives or even fail entirely. Technical hurdles are often not the problem – in fact, it is organizational, cultural and strategic factors that determine success or failure.

ChatGPT and other language models deliver impressive results in processing information — but they don’t always solve problems reliably. To make them suitable for industrial use, cognitive and algorithmic solutions must be combined. The new PROSTEP white paper on the MADWYN principle explains how a modular approach can significantly reduce the development effort associated with this integration.

Digital sovereignty is a key success factor in getting the most out of artificial intelligence (AI). Dr. Norbert Lotter and Dr. Rainer Zeifang explain how PROSTEP contributes to ensuring digital sovereignty in an interview on the topic of “Digital sovereignty and AI,” which was recently published in the “Smart Innovation” supplement of the Handelsblatt newspaper.

Carmakers place particular demands on data exchange in terms of data security and the exchange protocols to be used. Which is why the Stabilus Group, a global provider of motion control solutions, has replaced its existing data exchange solution with OpenDXM GlobalX. The new solution is not only easier to operate but also cheaper to maintain.

This month, PROSTEP is launching the new version 10 of its data exchange solution OpenDXM GlobalX. This is a major release that integrates even better with our Digital Thread platform and cloud infrastructures. It also enables the integration of BSI-certified tools, thus meeting the highest security requirements.

For several years now, PROSTEP has been offering its OpenDXM GlobalX customers Software MaintenancePLUS, a comprehensive service package that bundles the costs for software maintenance, a software update and support. It ensures greater planning security and reliable service quality. This offering has been so popular with customers that we will be making it available for all products in future.

As part of the Collaborative Digital Twins (CDT) project, PROSTEP has demonstrated how easy it is to connect its digital thread platform, which includes the OpenPDM and OpenDXM brands, to the Catena-X data ecosystem. Requirements can be synchronized in a semantically correct manner between different IT systems based on the aspect models defined by Catena-X.
No longer brand new, but more relevant than ever, is a white paper from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) on the benefits of the digital thread in aerospace. The AIAA considers the digital thread to be a strategic capability and recommends the use of open standards, clear data sovereignty, and small pilot programs as means to pave the way for implementation.
PROSTEP has entered a partnership with IFS, who is a global business software vendor. The aim of the cooperation is to expand our expertise in the field of PLM-ERP integration. The partnership gives us access to IFS's technology and enables us to connect IFS's ERP software to our proven Digital Thread Platform via a new OpenPDM connector.
The increasingly large number of different systems and the growing demands being placed on end-to-end digitalization mean that system integration is becoming a strategic challenge for companies. Without integrated systems, the digital thread can only be woven with a great deal of manual effort. PROSTEP provides support for industry's wide range of integration requirements with its comprehensive digital thread platform.

Colleagues from PROSTEP's presales and sales departments spent a lot of time on the road in the second half of the year, presenting our comprehensive range of consulting services and solutions to customers and interested parties. Key events included DALO Industry Days in Copenhagen, the Scale MX conference in Hanover, Systems Engineering Day in Salzburg, the PLM Road Map & PDT Europe in Paris, Compit in Pontignano and Europort in Rotterdam.
