Artificial intelligence (AI) is constantly conquering new aspects of life. We often use it, knowingly or unknowingly, in our day-to-day lives. AI-based algorithms evaluate our search queries on the Internet, recommend certain products, control the assistance systems in our cars or the household appliances in our smart homes, and much more. AI has also long since found its way into our business world. Industry 4.0 and the digital factory would be impossible without it. We are therefore also working intensively in customer and research projects on how we can use it to optimize product development, and we are developing our first AI-based applications.
An Interview with Matthias Rebel
Dieffenbacher manufactures machines and plants for the production of wood-based panels, composites and metal components as well as for recycling wood. The company also offers its customers a digital platform for monitoring and analyzing their press systems and plants. Matthias Rebel, Director Technical IT Systems, explains the challenges that the company faces when it comes to modernizing its heterogeneous PLM landscape.

Dieffenbacher needs to replace its existing PLM system because the vendor will be discontinuing support in the foreseeable future. Instead of immediately starting to look for an alternative, the plant engineering company first analyzed the PLM capabilities it would actually need in the future with PROSTEP's help. Thanks to PROSTEP's capability-based consulting approach, the company can be sure of moving in the right direction.

The smarter products become, the more disciplines and domains are involved in product development. Linked data needs to be shared across different disciplines if the interrelationships are to be made easy to understand. The Digital Data Package, which combines multiple standard formats, is used to do this. PROSTEP has developed the first prototype of a DDP generator for a major automotive OEM.

A closing event held a few weeks ago at BMW's Research and Innovation Center (FIZ) marked the successful conclusion of the publicly funded SET Level project. Key results from the perspective of PROSTEP, which was actively involved in the project, are the definition of an integrative simulation architecture and a reliable simulation process that can be documented in a traceable way with the help of our demonstrator TRACY.
