PROSTEP provides access to in-house PLM know-how

By Martin Strietzel

All PLM consultants at PROSTEP undergo several weeks of in-house PLM training during which they not only become acquainted with the technical fundamentals of product lifecycle management but also learn how to use consulting methodologies and PLM systems. We now want to make our extensive PLM know-how available to customers in the form of special workshops and training courses.

In recent years, PROSTEP has implemented a more strategic approach to its training program for employees, combining the various PLM-specific training courses to create a PLM curriculum. We are proud that this makes it possible for us to offer our employees (further) training and professional development that is on a par with university courses and courses available on the market and thus enable them to expand their method-specific know-how. Our future PLM consultants complete this curriculum as part of the training that allows them to advance from junior consultant to PLM consultant. On their path to becoming a senior consultant, they design new training content of their own and enhance their expertise in specific areas.

With our PLM curriculum, we make sure that our employees have a high and uniform level of training and thus ensure that consulting projects at our customers are handled as best possible. It is an integral part of the PROSTEP Academy, a comprehensive training initiative for young people embarking on their careers, seasoned professionals and managers that not only aims to impart methods-specific know-how and technical expertise but also the ability to lead. This includes, for example, presentation skills, moderation, negotiation and conflict management.

The PLM curriculum gathers all the in-house training courses, hands-on training sessions, lectures, workshops and webinars dealing with the topic PLM that PROSTEP has to offer and makes them available to future PLM consultants step by step in a well-structured manner. The basic training course takes three weeks, while expanding PLM-specific know-how and PLM specialization requires an additional week. There is, however, no need for participants to work their way through the contents of the individual training modules all at once. They can instead access them flexibly as their time allows.

The basic training course deals with a wide variety of different topics. In addition to the fundamentals of PLM and an overview of available CAx and PDM systems, it includes presentations and training courses on methods for strategy development, process analysis and process modeling as well as an introduction to systems engineering. Participants also learn about SCRUM and agile methods. In the context of expanding PLM-specific know-how and PLM specialization, they have an opportunity to take a closer look at requirements management, configuration management and change management as well as special topics such as validation and validation.

The comprehensive in-house PLM training course means that our consultants are also well prepared for dealing with complex PLM consulting projects. These projects indicate time and again that SMEs are particularly interested in making it possible for their employees to become better acquainted with the challenges posed by the digital transformation. That is the reason why we have decided to make our in-house PLM know-how available to customers in the form of special workshops and training courses. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in us providing your employees with training.
