PROSTEP TECHDAY 2018 on 8 November at DARZ

By Peter Pfalzgraf

Those attending PROSTEP TECHDAYS 2018 can look forward to interesting customer presentations, numerous new products and a highly secure venue: The event is being held 8 November 2018 at the green, high-security IT data center DARZ in Darmstadt. The data center is located in the building that once housed the Hesse Central Bank's vaults, where the Federal State of Hesse used to store its gold and money reserves.

This year, PROSTEP wants to make its customers and interested parties understand what security means. During the event, participants will have the unique opportunity to take a look beyond the nine-ton steel door behind which DARZ customers today store their confidential data just as securely as gold was once stored. PROSTEP itself uses the highly secure IT infrastructure to host its cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) offerings.

This includes, for example, the secure data exchange solution OpenDXM GlobalX, which PROSTEP will be presenting to a wider audience with its new look and feel for the first time at TECHDAY. Version 9.0 features a purely web-based user interface that makes all basic functions available in the browser. The user interface’s ergonomic design means that even occasional users will find the software very easy to use. PROSTEP worked closely with User Interface Design GmbH (UID) on redesigning the OpenDXM GlobalX interface.

In his keynote speech, UID's managing director, Dr. Franz Koller, will explain to those attending just how important ergonomic user guidance is for creating a positive user experience with conventional B2B applications in today's app age. Just one highlight of the event, but not the only one – as always, other highlights will include customer presentations. One such presentation will be a report by automotive supplier Schaeffler on how digitalization has helped make the company's product development process more efficient.

The key to the digitalization of many business processes is tighter integration of the digital and physical product worlds. At PROSTEP TECHDAY, visitors can find out how they can more easily link their digital product models with operating data from the real products. PROSTEP will be presenting three preconfigured OpenPDM CONNECT solutions for connecting the IoT platform ThingWorx to the PLM systems 3D EXPERIENCE, Teamcenter and SAP PLM.

There are also interesting new developments in the area of 3D PDF technology. PROSTEP will be presenting Version 8.0 of PDF Generator 3D, which now allows both the export of 3D data to HTML5 and the automatic generation of BOMs with 2D views of 3D components. This means that the solution can be used even more flexibly as a service content generator for making spare parts catalogs and other service information available in the web.

The visit to PROSTEP TECHDAY is free for all users and interested parties. Experts from the Darmstadt-headquartered consulting and software firm will also be providing participants with information about roadmaps, release planning and current trends at PROSTEP. They will be available to answer any question participants might have and discuss any topic of interest to them. PROSTEP TECHDAY will also once again give those attending plenty of opportunity to network and share their experiences with other users. The event is being held 8 November 2018.
