New OpenPDM connectors

By Udo Hering

PROSTEP has expanded the options it offers for integrating systems in heterogeneous PLM landscapes. In addition to the tried-and-tested standard connectors for 3D EXPERIENCE, ARAS Innovator, AutoDesk Vault, EKM, SAP, SIM Manager, Teamcenter and PTC Windchill, the PLM integration and migration solution OpenPDM now also offers connectors to SharePoint, HELiOS and CIM Database PLM. They were developed as part of customer projects.

The newly developed SharePoint connector allows, for example, viewing data in the formats JT, 3D PDF, etc. to be automatically transferred from the PDM system of the respective company to SharePoint and stored there or synchronized when changes are made. Specifications already available in SharePoint are in turn linked to the objects in the PDM system in an audit-proof manner. This means that all departments always have the latest data at hand without any need for all users to have a CAD system in order to view the data or for the data to be processed manually.

PROSTEP developed the OpenPDM HELiOS connector in close cooperation with ISD Software und Systeme GmbH, manufacturer of the PLM software suites HiCAD, HELiOS and HELiCON.

Like all the connectors in the OpenPDM product family, it provides functions for sending defined search queries to the HELiOS system and for exporting or importing metadata, documents and structures. And the entire process is automated. Without the connector, the planned migration of several hundred thousand data records to the customer's new PDM system would require a great deal of time and effort. Bidirectional synchronization of the new and old systems during the migration phase, during which data are modified in both systems, would be impossible.

Development of the connector for the PLM solution CIM Database PLM from CONTACT Software was triggered by a merger and acquisition project. The CDB connector was developed as an additional standard component of the OpenPDM product suite in collaboration with CONTACT. It provides all the functions needed to read BOM structures, documents and attributes into or out of the PLM system’s database, controlled by means of workflows for example. The merger requires that the two very heterogeneous PLM system environments be linked via an internal collaboration platform for the purpose of validating data and ensuring consistency. The platform comprises CIM Database PLM, the OpenPDM connectors to the PDM systems on both sides and the newly developed CDB connector and ensures that the data is exchanged in a highly automated and audit-proof manner.

The new OpenPDM connectors are now available with the current level of functionality to all customers and can be extended in line with their require.
