PROSTEP stand well attended at tekom annual conferenceBy Timo Trautmann The PROSTEP stand at the tekom annual conference in Stuttgart, which is aimed at experts in technical communication, attracted many visitors. PROSTEP showed how they can use intelligent service content solutions to automatically prepare engineering data for downstream processes such as service and after-sales and make the data available, for example, in the form of web-based 3D spare parts catalogs or as interactive 3D service documentation. Providing intelligent information in the right form at the right time and in the right place was the leitmotif of this year's tekom annual conference, which was expected to attract around 4,000 attendees and visitors. 140 exhibitors from 23 countries presented their new products and services in Stuttgart. PROSTEP launched the new version 8.0 of PDF Generator 3D, being its major innovation the support for the export of 3D data to HTML5 and the automatic generation of BOMs with 2D views from 3D components. This means that the solution now offers even greater flexibility when used as a service content generator, e.g. for publishing spare parts catalogs in the web, or as a motor for driving the implementation of drawing-free processes forward. In particular, the possibility of providing service information not only in the form of intelligent 3D PDF containers but also as web pages met with considerable interest among visitors. It shows that both global players and many SMEs are looking closely at how they can reuse their existing engineering information more efficiently in other departments and in downstream processes in the context of the digitalization of their business processes. In Stuttgart, the PROSTEP team established promising contacts with experts in technical documentation and communication from various industries. The visitors also included some representatives from the architecture and construction industries, who face similar challenges to the manufacturing industry when digitalizing their business processes. And they found a suitable solution at PROSTEP: The new version of PDF Generator 3D also processes the 3D formats DWG and DXF, thereby simplifying the provision of HTML5 and 3D PDF content for architecture and building information management (BIM).
