Seamless integration of PLM and ALM as a competitive factor

By Jochen Becherer

Over the past few months, PROSTEP has attended a number of events organized by the Siemens community – from Realize LIVE in Detroit and Amsterdam to the Siemens Life Science Forum in Frankfurt and Siemens PLM Connection in Seeheim – where we presented our digital thread platform. Our PLM/ALM integration solutions in particular generated a great deal of interest among Teamcenter and Polarion customers.

The PROSTEP Group, comprising PROSTEP AG and BHC GmbH, had its own stand in both Detroit and Amsterdam, which was very well attended. The highlight was our modular digital thread platform, which ensures cross-domain traceability throughout the entire product lifecycle. The key element of this platform is our solution for the secure, end-to-end exchange of data between OEMs and suppliers, which is integrated in the respective customers' backend systems. We also took advantage of the events to present AI-based engineering solutions, e.g. for automatically testing user interfaces, and gave a presentation on the Decide4ECO project, which addresses the question of how sustainability information can be made available in data ecosystems.

Representatives from a variety of different industries – from the automotive industry to mechanical engineering, medical engineering and shipbuilding through to aerospace and defense – gathered at our stand. In-depth conversations and discussions underscored the interest shown in our solutions for PLM integration and migration, collaborative engineering processes and ALM services – not to mention our PLM/ALM consulting services. The option of connecting the ALM solution Polarion to not only Teamcenter but also other PLM systems using our OpenPDM integration platform appears to be particularly well tuned to the times. The ALM team at BHC, which in the future will also provide Siemens customers with support when implementing Polarion, also found that there is a growing need for requirements management in shipbuilding and, more specifically, for the migration of requirements from DOORS to Polarion.

In May, top experts from the medical engineering industry and research community came together at the Siemens Life Science Forum to learn more about the particular requirements of the industry in terms of digitalization, automation and AI. Numerous best-practice examples and motivating presentations demonstrated practice-oriented approaches to digital transformation. Ensuring cross-domain traceability in the change management process is becoming increasingly important for companies when it comes to speeding up product development while at the same time meeting strict traceability requirements. Interest in our digital thread platform was also correspondingly great in this context.

This year, we did not participate in the Siemens community's user meeting in Seeheim as exhibitors, but we did attend as visitors with the aim of finding out more about innovations in the product portfolio. Attention was focused on topics such as the digital twin, end-to-end digitalization and the integration of AI in the product development process. Discussions with users allowed us to showcase our expertise in migrating and integrating applications in the Siemens portfolio and also awaken their interest in our AI-based engineering solutions.

We would like to thank all visitors for the interest they showed and we look forward to talking to them again. You will find further information on our home page, or you can make a personal appointment.
