OpenDESC.com supports customers despite the Corona crisis

Short-time work and home office determine everyday working life in the Corona pandemic. Nevertheless, the OpenDESC team at PROSTEP continues to support customers around the clock in the conversion, migration and transfer of their CAD and PLM data. We have expanded our software environment to meet the growing demand for our cloud-based OpenDESC.com service.

The supply chains in the automotive industry and other sectors have been severely affected by the corona pandemic. OpenDESC.com ensures that at least the data supply between OEMs and suppliers continues to function. Customers can use the cloud-based service not only for automatic conversion of their data and control of data quality, but also for secure data exchange, either automatically via OFTP, OFTP2 via an ENX connection or via our web portal, or manually via the supplier portals of the respective automobile manufacturers.

The PROSTEP service team has a lot to do despite or precisely because of the Corona crisis. "In addition to the general trend toward using SaaS services, the lockdown has also increased interest in our cloud-based services because companies can use them without installing additional software and without making any changes to their existing IT infrastructure," says Peter Pfalzgraf, head of the Products BU. 

To meet the growing demand, the software environment has been further expanded since last year. PROSTEP works together with leading manufacturers of CAx solutions such as Dassault Systèmes, Siemens Industry Software and PTC.

Using OpenDESC.com offers customers a number of benefits. They can develop their products independently of the OEMs' system specifications and can therefore more easily create customer-neutral platforms. They save the costs of installing and maintaining a heterogeneous CAD landscape and mapping customer-specific system configurations, which can change from project to project. PROSTEP guarantees data quality during conversion, data security during transfer and process reliability by logging and archiving orders.

The OpenDESC team is familiar with all common CAD/PLM systems, the system configurations of leading OEMs and their exchange rules. This enables them not only to provide optimum support for suppliers in terms of data conversion and transfer, but also to assume responsibility for their entire CAD/PLM landscapes if required. This is a service that companies frequently ask for, especially in corona times, in order to bridge personnel bottlenecks in system administration.
